The Karnataka High Court has upheld the suspension of bike-taxi services across the state, including in Bengaluru, effective from June 16, 2025. This follows an earlier April 2 order that prohibited bike-taxi operations until the state frames a regulatory policy under Section 93 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The division bench rejected requests from aggregators like Rapido, Ola, and Uber for interim relief, emphasizing that the Karnataka government has not adopted central guidelines or drafted its own rules. The decision impacts over 6 lakh gig workers who rely on bike-taxi platforms for income. Nasscom and IAMAI have raised concerns over massive job losses and urged the government to act swiftly. Meanwhile, the court has asked all parties to submit detailed responses by June 20, with the next hearing scheduled for June 24, 2025. Until a formal bike-taxi policy is enacted, these services remain suspended across the state.
