Equal Justice Begins with Equal Access.

Procuring basic amenities for women in our nation has often been a never ending hustle. Reservations in the legislation , maternity facilities in government hospitals, reserved seats for women in public transport and many more benefits are a result of prolonged debates and protests. We now see yet another issue faced by women in our country that is lack of Bar rooms for female lawyers in court complexes. Shortage of proper infrastructure that provides comfort, privacy and safety, thereby diversly affects their ability to discharge their professional responsibilities. A recent survey conducted by petitioners revealed not just the absence of bar rooms for women but also the lack of basic facilities such as sufficient seating arrangements, clean washrooms, changing spaces and nursing facilities. However the court has taken keen interest in resolving the matter under the designated bench of judges. The court has also introduced a new initiative for aspiring lawyers which is the 'Young Lawyers Professional Assistance Fund'. A mechanism to provide financial support to young advocates during the formative years of their legal careers. Therefore a justice system that cannot guarantee dignity within its own corridors risks undermining the very principles it is entrusted to protect.
