Former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil Passes Away at 90

Veteran Congress leader and former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil passed away at the age of 90 at his residence in Latur, Maharashtra, following a brief illness. Patil, a prominent figure in Indian politics for decades, served in several key roles, including Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Home Minister, and Governor of Punjab. Known for his calm demeanor and long parliamentary career, Patil played a significant role during the UPA era. However, his tenure also drew criticism, especially over his handling of terror incidents, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, which eventually led to his resignation from the Home Ministry in 2008. Leaders across party lines have expressed condolences, remembering him as a seasoned parliamentarian who dedicated his life to public service. Funeral arrangements are expected to take place in Latur.
