Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched infrastructure and development projects valued at ₹23,550 crore in Silchar, Assam, highlighting the Barak Valley's role in the Act East Policy. Key initiatives include the ₹22,860 crore Silchar-Shillong High-Speed Corridor, the Northeast’s first access-controlled expressway, which is designed to reduce travel time between Silchar and Guwahati from 8.5 hours to 5 hours. Moreover, a ₹565 crore elevated corridor has been initiated by the PM with the focus of decongest local traffic and a new Agricultural College in Patharkandi. This enhances regional educational infrastructure. In this event, PM Modi emphasized these efforts as a reversal of the reversal of regional neglect. This aims to strengthen connectivity with neighbouring states and boost trade with Southeast Asia.
